Homework and Baskets!!

You may have been noticing that your child has been coming home with some or all of their homework already done. This is about to change. We will be starting afternoon rotation - Science, Social Studies, and Technology on Wednesday. This will shorten the amount of time that we have in homeroom. This will mean that your child will not be given much time if any to complete homework at school. This may change the amount of time that they will need to work at home.

We want to be the class that raises the most money for the Spaghetti Supper and Auction!!! Does anyone have a good idea for a basket that we could create?

Changes!!!

We are beginning to get into our routine. I know that fourth grade comes with a lot of changes. Sometimes these changes can be frustrating at first, I know. Just know that this will pay off in the end and your children will be much more prepared for middle school because of this year. One of the big changes is homework. We have had our second homework assignment given today. My philosophy on homework is that it is tool for me and you to see where your child is. Remember it is not your homework; you have been in fourth grade. I really want to see what your child has done. I use this to help me determine if things need to gone over again or if we have really grasped the concept. Homework should take no longer than an hour. If it gets past that on a regular basis, please let me know.

Today I sent home your child's Star Reading Test results. Please look over this because it has some valuable information. You will see your child's grade equivalent as well as some suggestions to help them raise their reading score. We will be reading A LOT in class this year, and I will ask for your support in this throughout the year. All learning stems from reading at this point in school, it is the core. It will be a central focus in my class.

I have truly enjoyed meeting all of your children, and I beginning to see their great personalities. I am really looking forward to a great year!

First day!!

We had a great first day of school. I really think that we are going to have a wonderful class. I hope that you all enjoyed the first day as much as I did. We will be jumping into a full day of school Tuesday. We will be beginning some reading, math, and our big focus for this year ---WRITING. Look for binders coming home beginning tomorrow. Don't forget that they need to be signed every night.
